In Veerle Coucke’s work, abstract and figurative painting are alternating and are blending into one world. A trivial image out of the newspaper is the starting point to explore artistic, individualistic potential. Veerle is looking for playful and colourful contemporary interpretations and implementations of her subjects.
She aims at leaving behind photographic recognition and she wants her paintings to reveal a new surreal world. She adopts an outspoken flamboyant palette and a most expressive painting stroke. She definitely paints in an energetical way, so that the intensity in the process of the painting is embodied in the outcome. Her cheerful way of painting is a joy for the eye. She is making use of colours in all their riches, at times straight out of the paint pot and blended on the canvas.
